I just bought the Sega Genesis Ultimate Collection disc for the PS3. I’ve had this on the Xbox360 before but never got around to playing it. I was about to try and buy a Sega Genesis system and a few games when I realised all the games I wanted were on the collection disc.. I figured I’d give it a serious try before spending my millions on another retro system… $14 > $80-100+, right? The disc is also brand new!
You missed out first time round then, the collection is really good. Does the PS3 one have the Master System unlockables on it also? Alien Syndrome is one of the best.
I’ve just purchased the following Megadrive game; Corporation, cib for a v.good price.

OfflineThis doesn’t qualify as “new”, I know, but my family made an interesting discovery about two years ago. My grandmother was looking around her house, and she found a paper bag with a Nintendo 64 inside. There was also at least one controller, and seven games, some of which had the instruction booklets. The only three I remember are:
- Super Mario 64
- Goldeneye 007
- Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
I think we gave away the games and booklets, and I misplaced the controller, but I still have the console deck. I tried connecting it to my CRT back then, though, and it didn’t turn on, so I just have it in a dresser drawer. I may recycle the thing, if I don’t give it to someone who would like it first.

OfflineI got Star Ocean 2 last month. Pretty fun game, though I’m currently taking a break from it.
My brother last night said I could have Saint’s Row I, making it my 2nd 360/PS3 game that I have. My first was Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, but I gave it to him.

OfflineI picked up 3D Dot Game Heroes on Hector’s recommendation and am having a blast with it! It’s not quite as polished as a Zelda game as far as controls and general feel go, but in someways, I like it better than most Zelda games due to the large amount of secrets, sidequests and minigames.
I’ve also recently gotten Dragon’s Crown for the PS3. It’s a great RPG / beat ’em up hybrid that I’d highly recommend to any old-school beat ’em up fan.
Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

OfflineForgot to mention my pick ups from last Monday. I bought Animaniacs for both the Genesis and SNES and despite both being made by Konami they are very different kinds of games. I also bought Phalanx for the SNES, the one with the banjo playing guy staring at befuddlement at the space ship coming at him, and Super Off-Road for the SNES which is one of the games me and my brothers rented a lot when we were kids. Finally I picked up Sonic Colors for the Wii. So far it seems to me what Sonic games should be as far as presentation goes, cartoon-like and humorous with lots of colors. And the gameplay is pretty good to. Makes me a bit more optimistic for Sonic Lost World being a true return to high quality for Sonic.

OfflineMasamune,
I’ve never played a Saints Row game though they seem to get more and more campy with each sequel. IV is already starting to go on sale now that GTA5 is out.
Mr. Saturn,
what do you think of Phalanx? To me, it is the definition of a mediocre 16-bit shmup. It borrows a lot from other series and doesnt really establish its own style. Still a lot better than its box art would suggest.
Have you played Sonic Generations? It has become my favourite Sonic game and singlehandedly rekindled my interest in the series. The game lets you play as both Classic and Modern Sonic, each with their own levels. Modern Sonic plays like Sonic Colors, while Classic Sonic plays like the Genesis games. Highly recommended.

I thought Phalanx was alright. Pretty standard shooter but it did the job and had some fun stuff in it.
Haven’t played Sonic Generations, I picked up Colors on a whim and maybe I’ll pick up Generations on a similar whim.

OfflineI know I’m about four or five years late to the party, but I got Super Smash Bros Brawl last weekend and I LOOOOVVVEEE it. It’s like two games in one, with the classic KO fighting AND Subspace Emissary mode. It’s got every great video game hero ever too (except Mega Man, but he’s supposed to be in the Smash Bros for WiiU).
It pisses me off though; I bought my Wii last year with the intention to get games cheaper because of WiiU coming out. Guess I’ll have to wait a little longer
There are cheap Wii games though, although nobody wants the $8 Scooby Doo game or Wipeout game in the bargain bin at Kmart. Might as well be a coaster for your coffee mug.
(Oh god, it pisses me off though. There’s neat little 2 minute demos of like Star Fox and Kirby that you can play as a bonus on Brawl, but since the game came out in 2008 before the Classic Controller Pro came out [which I bought for my Virtual console games] they don’t work with the Pro controller and need the other classic controller or a Gamecube controller. UGHHH!]

Ghost, do you have the gun that was specifically made for Lethal Enforcers?I also have Art Of Fighting Anthology. It’s great we can get almost arcade perfect ports of these Neo-Geo games without paying thru the nose!
No, I used to have the Blue Justifier with a loose LE 1 cartridge but sold them years ago. I’d like to get another as I do have an old TV I use for classic gaming that it can work on.
Yeah I was an avid admirer of the Neo Geo stuff whilst forever dreaming of being able to afford it so to be able to play arcade versions of them now is pretty sweet. On the downside its a shame they don’t seem available on the GC so I suppose I gotta play them using the PS2 and it’s god awful pads. Art of Fighting is good but I think I prefer Fatal Fury and World Heroes that bit more.

Wii games are cheap in the UK, I can quite easily see them at PS2 prices with only certain titles fetching more than a tenner. That sucks its not compatible with the upgraded ‘pro’ controller, it really does. Hmm.. why do people object to using the GC pad I’ll never understand? I would say I use the SNES pad the most yet if I go GC it’s like Ive been using it my whole life. It’s a perfect shape and size and the buttons and stick are miles better than any others Ive used. Ah well, I’m in a minority of one on this I think.
