OfflineAntarch:
Super Monaco GP should be on the list for sure. Â I’m not the biggest Super Hang-On fan, but I agree that it has fantastic music. Â I’ll add it to the list on your recommendation.
When you pick up a Genesis, I’d recommend getting the Genesis 6-Pak cartridge. Â It’s got Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Sonic 1, Columns, Super Hang-On and the Revenge of Shinobi all on one cart!
Mong:
I’ve heard mixed things about the Punisher and have been scared off due to its high price. Â You seem pretty passionate about it though, so I will add it to the list. Â It will be good to have another Capcom game on the list; they didn’t show much love to Sega in the 16-bit days.
Masa:
Let us know what you pick up!

In fact, that’s what I just did about 30 minutes ago! I bought a Sega Genesis Model 2+ Super Monaco GP cartridge + 6-Pak cartridge for $27 USD online (+ $28 shipping -_- ). A Sega Genesis in retro gaming stores is like $40 here, so it was still a better deal to buy it online.

OfflineSadly no. The built-in games have many problems
-Sound is mono-only and is off-key in many titles
-Half the library is Homebrew
-No Saving, which means that games like Phantasy Star 2 are about impossible to complete
-Graphical glitches abound since AtGame’s emulation is more or less about 90 percent.
Original hardware is always best, but if you want a clone system, the retron is the way to go.

OfflineI would also recommend picking up a Genesis, ideally a Model 1.
It’s very interesting that one of the big selling points for getting a Genesis over a SNES is the same in 2013 as it was in 1991; it’s cheaper!

OfflineThe Game Gear Shining Force games are pretty good! Â They’ve obviously got 8-bit graphics / music, but it still looks / sounds pretty decent. Â The close-up battle scenes are especially nice.
The games are much more streamlined than the Genesis games, meaning that you basically go from battle to battle with no town exploration. Â This was likely done to make the games more friendly for a handheld market. Â Since Shining Force games are all about the battles, this isn’t much of a negative.

is this thing worth getting? I saw it at Toys R Us for about $25-30. if it works, it’s worth it for just a couple hours of fun at leastÂ
Â
If you have a PS3 or 360, I’d recommend picking up Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection. Â Aside from a handful of notable absences, it basically has every first party SEGA game you’d want to own and they’re all emulated nicely.

OfflineRushDawg is right about Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection. The only thing I don’t like about it is that you get to use a PS3/Xbox360 controller to play these games. I think it feels a bit weird. I ended up getting a Sega Genesis model 2 and buying the original games because of that. Nevertheless, the collection is a pretty good deal. I got mine for like $14+shipping and it was brand new.
You could also possibly pick up a USB Genesis controller/USB adapter that is compatible with the consoles to complement the collection disk.
