Hit the used game store Monday and made some pick ups.

Road Runner’s Death Valley Rally (SNES) – A game I played a lot of as a kid but a combination of slippery controls and confusing level designs typically ended it for me about half way through. In fact I just beat the game a bit ago. I do enjoy the references to classic Road Runner cartoons.

Prehistorik Man (SNES) – Only played a bit of it since getting home and it seems like it could be pretty good. I like the presentation and the controls do their jobs. Happy to play this more later.

Wizards & Warriors (NES) – While missing the Fabio boxart goodness of Ironsword: W&WII, its a solid game in its own right.

Afterburner II (Genesis) – Afterburner is a fun arcade game and Afterburner II isn’t any different.

I have heard nothing but praise for Prehistorik Man so I might have to check that one out.

Yep, Afterburner II is the definitive version, unless you count the rather ‘showy’ titled Afterburner Complete on 32X which is just about Arcade-perfect. Anyway both are fantastic.

Nice!!

That’s a solid Genesis collection you have there.  Gaiares is a great shmup and is pretty hard to come by.  It’s VERY tough though.  Rocket Knight Adventures is another one of my favourites.

Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

Nice stuff Antarch. RKA is also one of my faves, it’s a cracking platformer that looks, sounds & plays really well. You also have Shining Force 2, a superb follow-up to the original by Sega/Camelot (I know, I eulogize about SF a lot!) you’ll lose some good hours having fun in your quest smile

Nice Aldo_Chan! Is there any delay in the controls or with the sound? I’m interested in getting one of these adapters, but I’d hate if everything in the game wasn’t synchronised as they are supposed to on the NES.

I found the first Shining Force for the Sega Genesis with its box in a retro store in my area. It’s a good find since I am playing the second entry in this series at the moment. Genesis games are also fairly rare here.

The first SF game has a much clunkier interface than the second, though for my money, it’s got a much better (and weirder) cast of characters.  Hope you enjoy it.

You sure do have a lot of toys Aldo!

I recently bought:

Super Mario 3D World

Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition

Fire Emblem: Awakening

Tekken Tag Team Tournament 2 (WiiU)

Odin Sphere

I’m going to need a dedicated gaming room soon if I keep buying all these games!

I got for Christmas:

Chrono Trigger (DS version)

L.A. Machineguns & Gunblade N.Y. Arcade Hits (Wii)

I also ordered Cho Makaimura (JPN version of Super Ghouls n’ Ghosts) & Contra Spirits (JPN version of Contra III). Last month, I got Evolution 2 & Sega Rally 2, both for the Dreamcast.

I love the artwork on the Japanese versions of Contra III and Super Ghouls & Ghosts. Puts the other regions to shame really. It would be nice to have a website that is a repository for high res Japanese box artwork for all the older systems.

Just got back from Magfest where I picked up Japanese versions of EarthBound and A Link to the Past. Good times.

What’s that? Never heard of it.

You can read Japanese? That’s awesome if you can.

No I can’t read Japanese but I’d like to. Though I could probably play through them in Japanese pretty well I’d probably have to use a reference for Mother 2. Really I just bought them because they are two of my favorite games on the SNES and it is cool just to have the Japanese versions hanging around now. And they were pretty cheap all things considered.

Also MAGFest is a video game convention, the Music and Gaming Festival, that is held yearly in National Harbor, Maryland. It isn’t gigantic but it is very fan driven with tons of panels by internet personalities (AVGN, JonTron, Game Grumps, etc) and was just a ton of fun. It was my first and I am hoping to go again since I had such a good time.

Yeah. The SFC box art for Contra Spirits is quite better than the overseas box art, but the latter is pretty good in it’s own way. I actually prefer the overseas box art for Chomakaimura to the SFC box art.
