Welcome to the site, Tom!

I’m glad to see another gamer who proudly displays a SNES besides the current consoles!  If you can believe it this generation is the first time I have owned a system since the N64!  I credit that looong gap to just how GOOD the SNES is!  Why upgrade when there is nothing on the new that the SNES does not do better?

I look forward to your presence here.  And remember, even if its been a few days since a toic has been active, jump in anyway!

We may just be waiting for a fresh spark to get it moving again!

See you around!cool

I feel very welcome here thank you! 🙂 The snes boxes always facinated me. I felt it was such a shame to see them being ripped apart from everyday wear so I store them in my closet. I still have every cardboard box and every game from the early day’s. They look just like they did 15+ years ago. The “new” games I buy are, sad to say, not in the same condition. Almost every game comes without it’s box, and the cartridge itself is often very very dirty. I clean them as good as I can and wonder why the seller doesn’t keep his/her cartridges as clean. You wouldn’t believe what some people sell as “great condition” I feel it’s not that hard and that it gives you much more joy to play the games in the condition they derserve to be in. So the games I buy today don’t have any boxes and I accept that, since I’m formost a casual gamer and not a collector. I do see the value of getting complete games and I will look into that for sure. And I find it a challenge to buy games that are reasonable priced and bring much joy. That’s why I searched the internet for a forum and I’m glad I found this one! I’m sure you can be of any help to me, since I have a lot to learn. I play the system from the beginning but I’ve never expanded my game “collection” .  I’ve only recently started doing so and I must say…it’s really fun! 🙂

Indeed, what is better than the snes?! 🙂 I alway’s played the games but now I’ve come to a point where I want to expand my gaming experience and enjoy this system to the fullest. The N64 was/is a beautiful console but there always has been something special to the snes. It works more fluent I think. It leaves your mind clear to do what it want’s to do most: have fun!The “simple” 2d style is perfect and doens’t need to be improved to 3d I feel personally. These games were ahead of their time back then and still shine today. I hope to spend many many hours playing this system for years and years to come!

Tom, I’m glad I’m not the only one who cares about the condition of games. Don’t you hate it when you see a dirty scribbled up cart? The things people do with their things.yell

Well to be honest, most gamers of the snes back in the day WERE children, and both them and their parents didnt really prioritize complete undamaged boxes, or carefully reading manuals etc.. I know personally of many parents back when i was little, who used permanent markers on the games, to keep them from being stolen while lended, or easily identified incase someone forgot who’s game it was etc..

That said, i was old enough for this to not be much of a case for me, and even when we had the Nes, we did keep the boxes etc.. Which is what i would advice people to do in any case. The box isnt just for displaying at the store. Its a storage device, protection device etc.. Use it.

Oh yes, no doubt about that Grimm.

I’m referring to today and adults. I see grown ups today trashing their old school games. Doesn’t make any sense.

Well, if its a loose cart, some people figure its not worth taking care of? I dunno. Btw, your SF2 Turbo cartridge smelled a little funky.

Hi, I’m Greg, the guy behind the Anime Super Famicom Web Resource Center. It’s been around since 1997, about a year after I began importing Super Famicom games. I found out about this site when the site admin contacted me.

I bought a SNES as a high school graduation present for myself in the summer of 1994. The SNES had been around for a few years before then, but I was a late to the game. I had an Atari 7800 in junior high and throughout high school (I never owned a NES). I freaking LOVED playing U.N. Sqadron in the arcades, and I even went to see that stupid movie Dick Tracey TWICE the summer it was released just to play this game. I was thrilled to know that this was released for the SNES. I had a subscription to the old magazine Video Games and Computer Entertainment, which chronicled the delay for the SNES outside of Japan. In high school, I was evaluating whether to get a Genesis like my friend had, or a SNES. Becoming a real anime freak in the early 90s, I was interested in importing anime-licensed games. The SNES seemed to be easier to mod to play imports, it had games like U.N. Sqadron (which turned out to also be based off an anime), and it had many other games I was interested in. So, I decided on getting the SNES.

So anyhow, I found the Ranma 1/2: Hard Battle fighting game on clearance for $10 at the mall that summer, and about a week later, I bought my SNES. In 1996, I bought my first import SFC game, Ranma 1/2: Super Battle. Then after that, I bought other games such as Macross and Patlabor. I saw a great website in the mid ’90s called Anime PSX, which focused on Japanese import games for the Playstation. Since I was becoming a Super Famicom import collector, I decided to make my own site, dedicated to import gaming on the SNES. I used to get occasional contributing reviewers, but that tapered off around the mid 2000’s.You can check out the Anime SFC site by following the link in my signature.

I live in Japan. The town I live in actually doesn’t have many game stores, much less ones that carry SFC games. However, I know of other stores fairly nearby that sell retro video games. Unfortunately, I usually have to sift through a glut of soccer, pachinko, and horse race games wherever I find SFC games for sale, at least in my area. The better stores know not to buy back so many of these worthless games and they stock the better games.

Well, here I am. I look forward to talking about SNES/SFC games with everyone.

Welcome to the site, greg!

Let me just add that your site has been INVALUABLE to me back when I first began dipping my toes into importing!  Glad you could join in!

Greg, I’m glad you decided to join this community. I was telling Mongunzoo how I wished we had someone here from Japan so they could share their video game experiences with us. You’ve lived in Japan for awhile so you would know the gaming vibe over there.

I’m looking forward to talking about Japan, its games, etc. with you and everyone here on this board. laugh

popcornEnjoying your intro bud.

Hi Greg, glad your settling in. I’m sure you can offer a lot to this site and its members. It’s awesome you live in Japan, id love to go there just once.

I also like 90’s anime so Its funny you should say you were into anime-based games of the sfc such as Patlabor, the first import i ever bought & played on the snes was GS Mikami and i suppose you could say it inspired me to continue playing the greatest ever console to this day and beyond.

I do remember that a game based on Akira was apparently set for the Snes to be developed by THQ if i recall but it was scrapped before anyone saw the light of it.

If there’s one topic i like more than others its Super Famicom so I’m hopeful we can have a few discussions to spark some interest.

Hi! I’m Tonindo and I live in Sweden. I’m not what you would call a collector, but I do own a majority of the games for the SNES that I feel are the most precious to me. I think that the 16-bit generation was easily the best.

I like to make video game remixes and I have a YouTube-page where you can listen to some of my work. Not all of the remixes are from SNES games though. http://www.youtube.com/user/To…..ature=mhee

Welcome, Tonido!  Glad you could come and relax with us!  I’ll have to check out those remixes, as well-designed game music is an interest of mine.

Welcome Tonindo! Game remixes you say? That sounds interesting! :) I also think the 16bit era was the best and I feel very privileged that I could enjoy it back then and still can today! Curious what games you have and love to gear avout your most beloved!

Tom: I’m especially interested in the RPG’s on the SNES. My problem is that a few of them weren’t released here in Europe, so it’s kind of hard to find them for a reasonable price. I did however manage to get Final Fantasy III fairly cheap a few years back.

Masamune: I was feeling nostalgic this evening and googled around looking for SNES goodness and accidentally stumbled upon this cozy site. :)

The rpg’s on the snes are some of the finest I’ve been told. I still need to add those to the “collection” and I haven’t played them myself yet so I have a lot to look forward too! I live in the Netherlands and I understand your “problem” when it.comes to finding certain games. I also think this is a cozy site and like it much better than the other sites you often see. I welcome your input and hope to learn a lot from you!

As with the rest of the 16-bit era, the RPGs are the gold standard.  I often think that gaming, and RPGs especially have gone backwards ever since.  The SNES was a fantastic extension of the NES and the arcade sensibilites that came before.  As veterans of this site know gaming became alien to me during the preceding eras so i just…kinda stopped.

I just entered back into gaming with the new consoles and with few exceptions I find modern games to be as uninspired and boring now as thay have been since the SNES.  After my 360 red ringed AGAIN I had enough and offloaded it, hoping to try the PS3 on for size.  I was steered toward a SNES by the owner of the store.  I bought it with SMW and discovered that I had not outgrown gaming as I once thought.  The magic was still there, hidden years in the past.

Haven’t looked back since!  (Okay; So Dark Souls IS great LoL!!)
