Secret Of Mana 2 is FINALLY done, needs pictures that I will provide tonight. Sorry it took so long but its really hard to play that one comprehensively lol!
Next up is Super Ghouls And Ghosts, F-Zero 2nd opinion, Bassin’s Black Bass Starring Hank Parker, Mega Man X3 2nd opinion, and Mortal Kombat 2.
Looking forward to those reviews. I’m intrigued by how you described your Secret of Mana 2 playthrough as “comprehensive”. Did you try multiple character combinations.
Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

OfflineWhen I review a game, I review a game lol. It’s like an OCD thingl!
For this review I did four playthroughs: Once with a team of Duran, Angela, and Charlotte; Once with a team of Kevin, Charlotte, and Reisz, Once With a team of Hawkeye, Reisz, and Angela, and Once with a team of Duran, Kevin, and Hawkeye (the beatemup playthrough lol). I also played each character’s introduction sequence, and played numerous times with the help of my girlfriend to get a feel for MP.

OfflineUPDATE: The “Tick” review is submitted, with screenshots.
What a queue: it started out personally important and finished as exhausting. But it’s done now, and I’m moving on. I will review “American Gladiators”, “The Flintstones”, “Hook”, “Ninja Gaiden Trilogy”, “Smart Ball”, and “Super Back to the Future II”.
And I’ll also write this counter-opinion article about SNES commercials that I suggested a long time ago. I mentioned it to Masamune, but I’ve avoided it until now because it made me nervous.

OfflineI want to see that article, John. A different take on that era of advertising would show that the Hub is also a place of diverse opinions. My piece focused more on the Nostalgia of 90’s commercials (remember the Corn Pops psychotic breakdown ad lol!), but this is just one angle to approach this topic from.
I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Never be nervous to disagree or have a different take!

Thanks a lot for your support, Mon. The article idea only made me nervous because I suggested it before I thought I was a real part of this website, and I didn’t know where I could tread. Now that my thoughts have changed, I’m gonna go for it.

OfflineNo problem. You’re doing a fantastic job! Part of what makes the Hub great is EVERYONE is a part of the website to the same degree! Nothing is better than a community of fans working together to build something better than anything they could do solo, which is why I joined on as well!

Then it’s on to Mega Man X3’s 2nd Opinion, Mortal Kombat 2, Soul Blazer, Plok 2nd opinion, and Final Fantasy 2.

OfflinePlok’s a strange one that I like to see as a primordial Rayman; Same appendages-as-weapons, same cartoony look, and they’re both Fuckin WEIRD.
Not that that makes it bad, but I can definitely see why it was passed over back in the day…
X3 is great, but it doesn’t change the game like X, or up the ante like 2. I have a theory on sequels and escalation that I will share, but alas, that is the crux of my review, so that will have to wait lol!

OfflineI’m currently working on reviews for Wario’s Woods and Phalanx.
Mong, do you know if there is a connection between Plok and Rayman outside of the obvious visual / gameplay similarities (same creator, etc.)? Speaking of Rayman it’s very interesting that Ubisoft seems to be doing HD platformers with full retail releases better than just about anyone these days.
Have you played Mega Man X4? Next to the original, it’s my second favourite X game. The game features two separate campaigns; one for X and one for Zero. I think John listed it as one of his faves as well.

OfflineAs far as I know, none whatsoever, making the uncanny likeness even stranger. As for the new Rayman games, it is amazing that such unmarketable concept as Rayman can sell so well (3 mil and counting across all platforms), proving that 2D games are still alive and well.
When I look at the design of games like Rayman, It makes me weep for franchises like Mario and Sonic (and now maybe DKC) which have the market, yet have designers that are either lazy (Nintendo) or don’t know what the fuck they are doing (SEGA). If these games were treated like they deserve again, they would be world beaters…
As for X4, I have never played it, although zero as a playable character would be good, provided they differentiate (which they didn’t for X3, making it feel hollow) give him a sword! what a challenge that would be!

Zero has only melee attacks, a couple exclusive bosses, plus a different story in his X4 campaign. It gives the game a decent dose of replayability.
I’m glad Rayman Legends is selling well too. And I agree wholeheartedly that Nintendo should be looking to put a similar level of effort / risk-taking in their 2D Mario games.
As for Sega, they actually got Sonic right in both 2D and 3D with Sonic Generations. I’m very disappointed that they immediately abandoned this approach for a new style that really doesn’t fit Sonic’s high speed, precision gameplay. I do love the “Generations” concept though (revisiting old 2D levels in 3D and revisiting old 3D levels in 2D) and think it would work well with other long running series.

Okay, confession time. I’ve never played “Mega Man X4” at all; all the good stuff I’ve said about it was based on gameplay footage that I’ve watched and comments I’ve picked up. I still stand by my statements, but I want to clear the air about them.
No worries John. It’s not like Mega Man X4 is THAT different from any of the other X games. If you’ve played at least one X game before, you can likely get a good feel for how X4 plays.
